Yes…I was wondering the same, so it’s probably just that, Windows firewall or some config bothering there, although that’d still be an issue when switching to use phone connection, it’s still going through Windows wifi…so not sure, unless the firewal is setup individually for each wifi you connect to?? …anyway I’m glad you are in and ready to have fun with the testnet

I’m having the same issue. How did you resolve this? I’m on windows

I think he/she just switched to use his/her cell phone connection, as mobile hotspot.

I switched to my hotspot…it only worked for

safe keys create --test-coins command though still having issues with safe auth create --test-coins

but its progress :grinning:

Restart authd, it needs to be restarted once you switched connections.

Okay, so I did and got the following:

me@my-mint:~$ safe keys create --test-coins
New SafeKey created at: “safe://hyryyyy85kocnqij435wmcb5ks6ggzm9pqek1fhpepc398nxxutdmu3mo1o”
Preloaded with 1000.111 testcoins
Key pair generated:
Public Key = [value]
Secret Key = [value]

COOL. Now what? All dressed up and no where to go. Or at least I don’t know what I can do. Any suggestions?

My computer reconnected to the wifi so watch out for that if anyones trying the hot spot method

I can produce keys consistently now but safe auth start creates this error

Error: Failed to start authd

Caused by:
AuthdError: Failed when invoking sn_authd executable from ‘/home/zitcalasa/.safe/authd/sn_authd’

This was working when using the wifi. Same error for safe auth restart.

Run it directly from that path and see what error you get: /home/zitcalasa/.safe/authd/sn_authd restart

You can send some of the coins to someone else. Just note that this SafeKey that you created is not the default that would be used by the CLI to e.g. upload files.

Tried this and got same error as before.

safe node install works though

Thanks - how do I do this? I realise these are probably baby questions

I have also started getting this error

user@user:~$ safe auth start
Error: Failed to start authd

Caused by:
AuthdError: Failed when invoking sn_authd executable from '/home/user/.safe/authd/sn_authd'

When you run it directly from /home/zitcalasa/.safe/authd/sn_authd restart I expect it to show you more info if it fails, otherwise you should see:

Stopping SAFE Authenticator daemon (sn_authd)...
Success, sn_authd (PID: 282781) stopped!
Starting SAFE Authenticator daemon (sn_authd)...
sn_authd started (PID: 282801)
Success, sn_authd restarted!

I found this with a quick search, but you can find on the web a lot of these articles: How to Turn Your Phone Into a Wi-Fi Hotspot | PCMag

zitcalasa@ubuntu:~/.safe/authd$ safe auth restart
Error: Failed to restart authd

Caused by:
AuthdError: Failed when invoking sn_authd executable from ‘/home/zitcalasa/.safe/authd/sn_authd’

Starting SAFE Authenticator daemon (sn_authd)...
[Error] GeneralError - Failed to start sn_authd daemon '/home/user/.safe/authd/sn_authd' (exit code: 1)

Ok, something to improve here as that’s not helping us at all. I’ll be taking a look at this, it seems is quite common on Windows as per what I see, I don’t have one but we’ll see if other folks can help.

Perhaps you can try one last thing, run it in foreground:

  • @Guybrows, don’t use CLI but the sn_authd binary directly, i.e.: $ /home/zitcalasa/.safe/authd/sn_authd restart --fg
  • @JPL: $ /home/user/.safe/authd/sn_authd restart --fg

Yeah, strange one. It was working before. I’m on Linux BTW, Mint.

Edit - looks like the node folder is missing. I’ll reinstall everything
