This is not from today, but in the light of COVID-19 is interesting:

Unfortunately, it’s true that 760 million people are practically quarantined:

Friendly reminder that we have a Covid-19 topic in the forum where we discuss what everyone can do on a personal level:

If the scale of the lock down is as said, then people are likely dying en masse from not being able to reach hospital, or can’t be admitted because the beds are taken, or not enough staff to help them and what about those who need their urgent medication?
That alone is mass death, jesus

This is prevention, it has not spread so far. And with so much prevention, they will surely slow it down while finding a cure.

The idea is that our world is about to change. It is nice for a person to prepare himself mentally and if it depends on some external factors to plan from now on.

For example, many drug preparations are manufactured in China. It is very likely that there will be times when certain drugs will not be available at the pharmacies…

Edit: I lived during a time when the shelves were empty in the shops in Bulgaria. I tell you, it is better to prepare for the shortcomings … Things you consider normal to have as light bulbs may be missing and even if you have money there may be nowhere to buy them from (obviously there is no way to know what would end up first in such a situation therefore, everyone should prepare according to their reasonable judgment)

Not that I am a really an IOTA fanboy, I do have a little but they have never claimed their network to be decentralized just yet, thats post coordicide which supposedly will be here late 2020 potentially. They have had a number of really big partnerships with heavy hitters in tech so they must be doing something right :grinning: ?

It is funny, that people from postsocialism countries who were used to empty shelves every day for very long time are the least panicking. They simply do not believe such situation could be possible again.

The current locusts in the Horn of Africa are potentially a bigger problem then the virus (maybe less for Europe / America).

Friend, unfortunately we live in a closed system and every problem in a closed system makes every other problem bigger… So a pandemic is bad, a pandemic with hunger is very bad.

I will pray for all these people, but I am afraid that we will go through very difficult times. It is now the calm before the storm and anyone who has the opportunity must act decisively to prepare.

How bad it will be on a personal level depends on how much effort you make now…

I was more expressing that the Corona virus gets relative a lot of attention, compared to other potential problems.
And the prepping movement is not new of course.

Actually the opposite. Corona virus gets much less attention than required for such multiplicative disaster. If you have a danger that gets worse by 20% daily without any slowdown after unprecedent actions by such giant as China it is many orders of magnitude higher danger than any other that we have now. All current dangers are well known, none of them is growing exponentially on daily basis. Corona virus is super infectious. Simply put into calculator 1.1^100. You will see insane huge number. That number is how much will infection multiply in 100 days with 10% grow per day. If you use 1.2 - 20% grow, you will shit into your pants. We can’t trust data from China, but we can trust data from outside of China. And outside of China it is growing 10-50% every day. I have never ever seen such danger and such blind society response. China has already stopped export of any chemicals, medicine or healt care products. They switched from exporter to importer and are importing everything health related. Worldwide supplies of drugs are about to be depleted in few days/weeks. In USA 90% of drugs require chemicals from China. China will not ship them. We have huge shortage of protective suits and masks. Hand sanitizers and other drugs are about to be depleted soon. There is no known way how to stop the infection. And 20% of infected require intensive healthcare with hospitalization. Our health care system will collapse in first month of infection. Who will want to work in hospitals without protective suits and masks?

Just came across this kind of coincidentally. Always thought that the capabilities of SAFE could make the possibilities of platforms like these so much more far reaching than on the clearnet. Tagging @Shane for the CMS connection (sorry about the trains! Hopefully next time!)

They shut down a decentralised network, ah, IOTA is not decentralised then.

They made special page with actual status of this issue

Market capitalisation for IOTA, which is now the 23rd largest cryptocurrency space according to CoinMarketCap, plummeted 25% from $975.74m on 12 February to $730.14m in the early hours of Monday 17 February.

Sounds fair, considering it clearly isn’t decentralised. Perhaps they would have been better off not proving it isn’t…
