What’s up today? (Part 2)

The French dictator can’t survive this can he? Even his own storm troopers agree with the protesters :clap:t2:

Edit: And it’s Friday which bank collapses today :joy:

While that can be used as a reason that is hard to argue it is a whimsical excuse. Addictions vary greatly, why are those singled out for big brother to protect people from. Do they limit what alcoholics can spend at the liquor store?

But wait CBDC to the rescue!

On a slightly different but similar note, the US congress had a hearing yesterday with Tiktok CEO as they want to “protect” US citizens and their data by banning it.

What an embarrassing show of complete ignorance on the part of the “protectors” made me side with tiktok which I cant stand.

We are currently not looking for user-facing applications, such as messaging apps or file storage services. If this changes, we will announce it here.

It would be a stretch for SAFE… the way it’s written, they are supporting things like cURL development, and crypto would definitely be out even if otherwise the societal relevance is there. I would otherwise volunteer as I have a fair few academic and industrial RFPs under my belt and succeeded in getting grant money from Germans before

Now this is interesting…

We all know what the response to this would have been last year.

But this is this year

Wouldn’t it get really interesting if this sort of thing was to catch on?

If it does catch on, all exploration by companies will stop, infrastructure will crumble as it did in Venezuela, and oil production will decline ever more rapidly.

Which will mean a collapse in food production and food transport … which will mean mass starvation and death.

Be careful what you wish for - it may just come true.

Big oil sucks because of corporate law and the malincentives put in place by the mafia - err, the State. But at least corps allow for markets and those markets keep the gears greased. Nationalize things and the markets will seize up. The history with this sort of thing is very clear.

As centralisation is revealed to be the Achilles heel of the Internet Archive, can anybody think of a solution?

I suspect Brewster would be onboard pretty fast. He’s accessible via Mastodon (unlike all but a couple of my SN buddies - are you all still on Shitter?) :man_shrugging:t3:

Article in The Register about some alarming behaviour from ChatGPT. It’s long - 15 min read - but worth it.

You know how scary it can be to Google yourself? Well if you ask ChatGPT it might tell you that you’re dead! Then when asked how it knows this say it was reported in the media. Then make up URLs to obituaries that don’t exist when asked where it found the information.

The author goes on to examine some risks of relying on this technology.
