Are there browser plugs to do this automatically?
“reader view”?
Thanks but I meant that redirect to those privacy wrapping services that JayBird listed.
there is redirector addon for firefoz where you manually doenter which url to change
but there is also bypass paywall addon that deletes all the walls that blocks articles in hundreds of websites
Mileage may vary, I haven’t tested this. There seems to be a few handmade scripts floating around too.
Searching things like “redirect A to B script/extension” and maybe the name of your browser, and I’d imagine you can find something for your needs. It’d be nice if there were an addon that was halfway clever that covered a collection of those sites, but I can’t find one.
If you bookmark nitter.net for example, and go onto it from the start of your twitter session, all links open in nitter and everything just works. Sometimes you’ve to try another instance when you first go on, but it is rare. I haven’t been on actual twitter (or actual reddit, teddit is great too) in yonks, and I’ve no accounts on either.
You may have thought the UK has already lost it but wait, there’s more…
Another draconian and thoroughly impractical bill regulating the internet from Johnson’s “free speech” and “no red tape” government. You won’t believe what’s in the #NationalSecurityBill and being added to the #OnlineSafetyBill
thread:
The conversation on Reddit which @Sonder posted above has developed and there are several good questions arising related to the claims made in the Primer.
Does anyone fancy chipping in to help answer one or two? I’ve also invited the person over here, but answering there would be better if we can.
Here’s the reply with some specific questions:
When asked, Kherk Ying Chew, an advocate and solicitor who has practised in the area of intellectual property (IP) law for more than 30 years said, “The impact of the Copyright (Amendment) Act 2022 is far-reaching as the act of distributing and sharing of applications, websites and hyperlinks by individuals through messaging applications or on social media platforms that allow access to pirated content is no longer harmless, as it is a criminal offence.”
The gist of it is that anyone found selling ISDs and associated software applications that allow unauthorised access to copyright content can be:
- fined up to RM200,000,
- be imprisoned for up to 20 years,
- or both
If a company is deemed to be involved in these prohibited activities, the director of the said company can be personally held liable.
So with that act its possible for someone there to link to a website with great content/information. Then months or more later the website adds one link (maybe in a comment) and the person who innocently linked to that site when it was fine, is now a criminal by that law.
Its basically extending the distribution of copyright material to now linking to a site that has explains or links to a site that allows downloading copyright media. Remember in copyright law downloading is a civil case and distribution is criminal, now linking to site that allows it is a criminal act. So is linking to a site that links to a site that has links to download copyright media a crime too? Or linking to a site that links to a site that links to a site that has links to download copyright media a crime too? And where does it stop?
They tried that here with the filtering law they proposed and it was laughed at by aussies and never was presented to the parliament. And this extension reminds me of that.
No problem, you did a great job too. The more people from this community active on Reddit the better
Single points of failure… ![]()
As of now, we don’t have an ETA of when the problem will be fixed
What is capital and what is not… learning abcs nd new tech.
The nomenclature used to help the layman understand Bitcoin makes lawmakers confuse it as money instead of entries in a database. We must change the terms.
They don’t care though. Whatever it is, whatever it is called, they want to regulate and control it. It doesn’t matter whether they’re logically consistent, contradictory or anything else. That’s what law makers do. It’s crap, but there we go.
1 EUR = 1 USD = 5 K sats
(conversions are simpler now)
Has anyone else been having terrible with the forum lately?
Seems flakey the last couple of days: slow to load pages and earlier today it wouldn’t load at all. Also one or two topics persistently failed to mark themselves as read, or allow liking a post, while most topics were still working fine. ![]()
