Stable set and small nodes being allowed in sections should enable for mobile nodes, yes? That’d be pretty amazing to have capable this early on.

Seems like the stable set would naturally emerge if you just made the relocation rate inversely proportional to node age, no?

It is proportional, the older you are, the time between relocate is exponential. The problem is the stable set has CRDT like properties that are really nice. If you allow an elder to jump in there, even if rarely, then you have all sorts of issues to cope with and are then forced into strict order and complex consensus algorithms. I am not a fan of that kind of decision-making, to be honest. It requires too much to align and many messages etc.
If we have the stable set we have other, simpler opportunities. There is a modelling effort right now to try and prove/disprove this conjecture.
