Thoughts on switching from C++ to Rust for MaidSafe

I’ve discovered that the MaidSafe team has switched from C++ to Rust, and I would be curious to know more about the transition and the outcomes of using this language.

Has the fact that Rust is a newer programming language (with less libraries than C++) slowed down the development in general? Or perhaps is has accelerated other areas, and overall it is a net gain?
