CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — In the Nevada desert, a cryptocurrency magnate hopes to turn dreams of a futuristic “smart city” into reality. To do that, he’s asking the state to let companies like his form local governments on land they own, which would grant them power over everything from schools to law enforcement.
Jeffrey Berns, CEO of Nevada-based Blockchains LLC, envisions a city where people not only purchase goods and services with digital currency but also log their entire online footprint — financial statements, medical records and personal data — on blockchain. Blockchain is a digital ledger known mostly for recording cryptocurrency transactions but also has been adopted by some local governments for everything from documenting marriage licenses to facilitating elections.
The company wants to break ground by 2022 in rural Storey County, 12 miles (19 kilometers) east of Reno. It’s proposing to build 15,000 homes and 33 million square feet (3 million square meters) of commercial and industrial space within 75 years. Berns, whose idea is the basis for draft legislation that some lawmakers saw behind closed doors last week, said traditional government doesn’t offer enough flexibility to create a community where people can invent new uses for this technology.
“There’s got to be a place somewhere on this planet where people are willing to just start from scratch and say, ‘We’re not going to do things this way just because it’s the way we’ve done it,’” Berns said.
He wants Nevada to change its laws to allow “innovation zones,” where companies would have powers like those of a county government, including creating court systems, imposing taxes and building infrastructure while making land and water management decisions.
This sounds like the East India Company gone 21 Century with the ability to create its own state inside of other countries.

The SPARQL endpoint for Open Streetmap has been down for months, leaving users with no other option than to run their own server. This is a one of the big issues with linked data and the Semantic Web today. Once SAFE has support for RDF and SPARQL, this kind of thing can be a thing of the past. Getting good performance on SAFE might be a challenge that could be a usecase for the plugin system suggested by @antifragile. A node running an Open Streetmap plugin could keep the entire dataset on an SSD and have lots of memory to ensure fast query performance, or maybe a more general plugin where the nodes could announce which datasets they keep a local copy of for fast query performance.

As to your point about “Deep State” this is the more modern term for the Shadow Government that has run the US for many decades. This is not conspiracy. The Military Banking Industrial Complex is the Deep State, Shadow Government, or Secret Government. Is it not? They launched an endless war on terrorism that has netted them 6.2 trillion and counting. This war is now coming home to focus on US citizens. Is that a conspiracy? No.

The term “conspiracy theorist” was programmed into the public mind by the CIA so people would not question the official narrative on Kennedy. Why did they even bother to create the term?
For a long time you’d be called conspiracy theorist if you said the Vietnam war was fought for profit and based on a lie. Meaning what those in authority was just a plain lie regular folk that fought it knew better. The entire basis for that war had no truth in it. The officially narrative was a lie. They same goes for Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq.
If I say the US public has been experimented on by this same group over 150 times without consent is that a conspiracy? If I say right now modern military grade propaganda is projected on the US public 24 hours a day without their knowledge is that a conspiracy. It was illegal 15 years ago. How does the public distinguish between official legal propaganda from the military and regular sources? Didn’t operation Mocking Bird prove the CIA had infiltrated the Media.
Using the term Conspiracy Theory does the work of the CIA in shutting down thinking.

Speculation and fun narratives are not proof of anything. Backroom deals existed since the beginning of time. Do I believe that there are shady deals? Of course.
But whenever anyone talks about “deep state”, a rule of thumb that will work 99% of the time is that it is someone who is just blurting nonsense that isn’t backed by anything.
The likelihood of hearing something fact based from anyone using the words “deep state” is as high as finding a real doctor behind an article talking about “orthomolecular medicine”. There is some real research behind it, for sure, but the majority of those using these terms are new age nutjobs.
