For instance almost 60% of all dev resources went into the low level network libraries with multiple versions of connection oriented UDP and now we can move forward with TCP alone.

Is that UDP progress still available and open source? So when The world is all watching and wants to create it, they will have a solid foundation to start from?

No problems at all here, logging into an account I created five hours ago and checking the data.

Try a fresh start with a default local network, no redirections, with download of launcher 0.4.5 in an empty folder, start without any vaults since this network uses later binaries and @dirvine requested no community binaries.

I am, however, now running a community1 vault (on community1 of course) as well as a launcher for client_test_2 (this network): they operate quite separately each on its own network.

There’s still way too much confusion and misinterpretation (and FUD) in the crypto space with regards to MAID, so it’ll be good to clear the air and give people a better sense of what to expect.

Good point! The very reason I’ll be trying hosted servers for my first farming attempts…rather than low watted machines from behind ADSL.

It already has. As I understand there have been tests to log into the test networks from behind the firewall that have been successful!!

It’s not that easy. Even Tor cannot work in China. There will be a relentless fight from the Chinese government using the GFW.

Here is a quote that I think explains some of the added features of SAFE that allow it to be more secure and firewall resistant than other options (such as Tor)

“MaidSafe doesn’t use DNS. Everything goes through routers in a thing called encrypted RUDP packets, so basically the packets go through the router but nothing can tell what’s inside it. And it doesn’t use DNS so they don’t know that it’s traffic for the MaidSafe network. So countries can’t shut MaidSafe down. So China couldn’t shut off the Safe network the way they could now, or Turkey couldn’t shut it off the way they shut off Twitter. OK, but you can’t rule out the possibility that it simply hasn’t yet been noticed by the people who run the GFW.

One obvious tactic they can deploy is to block the IPs in the test config files.

For the test network yes, but as I understand it, once the network is up for real, there will not be IP addresses to block at all…

As i understand it, the seed IP addresses won’t need to be in a config file, that’s all. They will be able to be found on many channels outside of SAFEnet. So it will be a constant easter egg hunt by the GFW admins, blocking SAFE seeder IPs wherever they are found, and they would need to get all of them. If one is available then the client is straight onto the network. With IPV6 and unlimited IPs it gets even better.
