SAFE's competitive edge compared to traditional network?

Hello guys, this is Ayden from Maidsafe Solutions in Korea. the Korean branch is going pretty successful in reaching out to general public who are interested in the idea and economics of SAFE network!

Lately, we’re facing some difficulties as we have been trying to expand our pool of audiences to people with some extent of knowledge or professionalism in related technologies.

Most of the professionals we’ve met have hard time understanding what makes the SAFE network so special, as they think it is a cloud server or a p2p server of some sort. we do know the decentralization part is huge, but we still lack professional knowledge to properly appeal to these tech guys in detail.

as such, can you guys refer us to some posts/documentations that might make these guys interested and think ‘Oh this is why it’s special and worth my attention’ ? These must be out there already (probably in this forum too) but we’re having an hard time sorting out what’s appealing to them or not.

Summary:

  1. Korean public likes SAFE, now we trying to talk to professionals!
  2. Pro’s don’t really see the “wow-factor” in this concept and technology

Can you tell us a bit more about the pros you’ve been talking to? Are they security guys, corporate network specialists, IOT enthusiasts, DevOps, cloud integrators, web developers / designers, analysts, tech marketers, managers… etc? The answer is likely to be different in each case.

They’re mostly IOT engineers, server managers and blockchain enthusiasts. it’s the most rapidly growing tech field in korea so we’re focusing on them!

For the IoT you might want to check out this thread. As @bochaco points out:

… there are several frameworks and protocols out there (e.g. MQTT and CoAP) but they are all pretty much having similar issues, and their challenge seems to be mainly related to security and NAT (to connect to the devices in different networks). Then I found out that the way they all seem to solve it is by having servers/brokers in the network, which not just adds complexity to the development of the devices’ software, but it also brings in security concerns about who you are sharing the information with when your IoT things need to communicate using these servers, you are forced again to trust third parties.

Now, it’s obviously early days but in theory SAFE could solve many of these issues.

Security is probably the benefit of SAFE that’s easiest to understand and promote, namely:

  • All data on the network is encrypted
  • Possibilities of DDoS are hugely reduced
  • Resilience of the decentralised architecture - should be pretty much impossible to take it down.

Then there’s performance. Unlike the current internet, the more machines that are connected the faster it will be, and the more popular a certain file, the quicker it will download.

The proof of the pudding will be in the eating of course, but that should whet their appetites.

Blockchain enthusiasts should be interested in the potential for a consensus model that does not require proof of work and is much more scalable. XOR networking is well explained here. Meanwhile if they are interested in the difference between BTC and Safecoin they could look here.

As for the server admins, you may want to suggest a career change :wink:
