SAFE Network Brand ID Competition

Do you think the name safe network will be translated or will it remain the same across all languages?I’m pretty sure the strapline will have to be translated.

Nothing stopping you promoting the network however you like really…this byline is mainly aimed at those stuffy ‘Safe Network’ conferences where everyone is nodding off.

Get on a winner with Safecoin, she is the starlet: ‘Safecoin Network - Safety for your digital life’ or whatever works in Spanish/ French

A wise decision. Its just too bad the voter turnout was anemic.

If the concern is how this popular tagline gets translated into other languages - then you should know it doesnt have to get translated - it can get modified/tweaked to work.

Check it out.

Onward/Upward.

Not sure about the last part of your sentence, but I definitely agree on the first part.

The strapline is part of the SAFE Network brand identity we are currently working on. First and foremost to run the logo design competition on 99designs, but I’m sure the Brand ID will come in handy in other cases.

If and when translations are required I’m sure the community members that are proficient in that language will be able to agree on a good translation for the tagline and other important information. I think people with basic English skills will be able to interpret the current strapline anyway.

I don’t think we should want to translate the name “SAFE Network”, it would not make for a strong single identity. I don’t think a lot of companies do this.

I don’t think you would necessarily use the strapline to promote the Network. It’s not meant to be used as a headline for a news article. If you want to catch people’s attention you mention things like it being a decentralized autonomous network and that it pays to share your hard-drive space and internet bandwidth.

Hi all, quick update from the competition team. We had a short meeting today in which we discussed the feedback we received from the community.

Minor design brief change

Both @BIGbtc and @pds suggested changes to the part of the brief where we describe the SAFE Network. We decided to apply the changes that @pds suggested since we thought they were the best improvement to the original text.

The changed part now reads as follows:

The SAFE (Secure Access For Everyone) Network is a decentralised data and communications network comprised of the unused hard drive space, processing power and data connection of its users. It is a global, serverless network that offers a level of security and privacy not currently available on the existing Internet. Users have full control over their data, while developers can focus on building applications on top of a secure infrastructure.

To read the full description please refer to the full brief (bottom of the post, under ‘click here…’).

Other feedback

@davidpbrown suggested additional emphasis on the business side of the Network. We discussed the need for this and decided that right now this was not needed.

Aside from the above we got a lot of feedback on the strapline suggestions. A lot of additional straplines were then suggested. A vote was then held on the five best suggestions which Secure Access For Everyone won with over 50% of the votes.

We thank everyone for their feedback and participation in the strapline vote.

What’s next?

We now have everything we need to launch the design competition for the SAFE Network logo. We plan to do this next Monday. Then on Tuesday an update with expected time lines for the competition will be posted.

If you are planning on joining the competition you can already register as a designer on 99designs. As mentioned before the competition will start out as a Platinum members only competition, but we will then open up the competition for all designers on 99designs after a few days. If you registered on the site you will then be able to submit your designs as well.

I’m glad things are moving along but this is still a bit too technical to reach the broadest target possible:
and data connection of its users. It is a global, serverless network
Again here:

While not as accurate, the word “data” should be replaced with “internet” to better convey the resource to novice users. It might seem trivial and unnecessary but reminding them where they have control of their data is important for momentary conceptual reinforcement. Again, sounding technical and being accurate is great but it narrows the target scope.

Please consider this friendlier revision:

SAFE (Secure Access For Everyone) is a decentralized communications system made possible only by efficiently combining the unused hard drive space, CPU power and internet connections of its users. It is a global network without servers that offers a level of security and privacy not currently available on the existing Internet. Users of the SAFE network have full control over their data, while software creators can focus their time building on top of a secure system. Gone are the days of costly server maintenance and overwhelming security threats. Welcome to SAFE.

If you guys have set things in stone then oh well. That’s life. I just want grandma in for the ride.

Turned out great guys, looks spot on to me…thanks for all your efforts on this.

I didn’t mean or try to step on anyone’s toes. You guys are awesome! I just know that there is always room for feedback and maybe some improvement. As said in the “Walking & Talking” section of the brand wheel image, we are “Inclusive, supportive and open”. Excluding anyone by means of cryptic wording goes against that in my humble opinion. It’s cool to be technical and “sophisticated” but not at the expense of the bulk. Non techies constitute the majority. It would be unwise not to have them in our sights. :innocent:

I have some other suggestions if this group doesn’t object. Minor things really. Significant to me though.

Good work. Congrats @pds Well done and @Krekc & Team

All suggestions are welcome, please add them into this thread!

I concur, great work team and very much appreciated… and I can’t resist a suggestion too

@Pierce:

It is a global network without servers that offers a level of security and privacy not currently available on the existing Internet.

I wonder about changing available to possible?

I accept this is only the brand description and that I may be being too detailed, so just offering the idea!

Thanks again. I’m really enjoying this process and watching it all unfold.

I’ll put this here on the back of that brand is reasons why you would want product:

I wonder there is an opportunity for SAFE to leverage those principal aims that are Privacy; Security; and Freedom, in an explicit way that I’ve not seen suggested yet.

"SAFE because"
SAFE because - you should not have to ask for privacy
SAFE because - everyone deserves freedom
SAFE because - security should be without compromise
or similar.

I don’t know if that is beyond strapline and more into the area of meme and perhaps with branding that matches the intent and direct statement that is what SAFE is all about.

Branding should be compelling… not just another option that you might want, but something that is essential to providing what you need.

I wonder we should not be shy of being explicit in defence of those fundamentals that should appeal to all sensible interests. Should of course is opinion but that then strongly founded in understanding ‘why’ such capability matters. As such, the hook there might be considered contentious but it draws people in… and marketing is all about hooks.

The branding should make the product appear essential and needed, not just another product that user has to come to with a reason to use it. If we provide the reason up front, then the user has even less to do in falling towards using it.

SAFEnet’s true peer-to-peer authentication appears to be unique, and so any service that requires a login can be serverless only on SAFEnet.

We applied some of the changes suggested by @Pierce. Here is the final version that we agreed on:

The SAFE (Secure Access For Everyone) Network is a decentralised data and communications network made possible by efficiently combining the unused hard drive space, CPU power and Internet connections of its users. It’s a global network without servers that offers a level of security and privacy not currently available on the existing Internet. Users of the SAFE Network have full control over their data, while software developers can focus their time building on top of a secure infrastructure.

The logo competition is now live. See this topic for more info.

Two minor adjustments if you’d allow. Sorry if I’ve become a nuisance. :innocent:

First.

There is a tiny redundancy in this opening sentence. It’s technically correct but as you guys know, I would link anything SAFE to be smooth, shiny, and succinct.

My adjustment would be:

SAFE (Secure Access For Everyone) is a decentralized data and communications network made possible by efficiently combining the unused hard drive space…

OR if you’d still want to use a forced reference by using the word The, we could try this:

The SAFE (Secure Access For Everyone) Network is a decentralized data and communications platform

Second.

The two its/it’s are too close together. I believe it would roll off the tongue more smoothly if the second were not contracted.

The minor change would be:

CPU power and Internet connections of its users. It is a global network without servers…

That’s all, sorry to pester you. :yum:

One other minor change that someone once said to me. When you refer to the Internet rather than a interconnected network that one should capitalise “Internet”.

The Secure Access For Everyone Network , SAFE , is a completely decentralised and serverless protocol efficiently and securely combining various unused resources of its users . Hard drive space , CPU power and internet connections are streamlined into a global and decentralised data , communication and application environment offering unprecedented levels of privacy and security currently not available on the existing Internet ( SAFE Users call it the Clearnet ) .

All participants in the SAFE Network retain full control of their data and credentials , its users can choose to surf or create websites , store private and public data , make their unused resources available and gain safecoin currency in exchange for running local vaults , trading services , and even by executing native dapps or selling their own computing power .

Software developers appreciate the advantages of being able to focus their time and
energies building and pioneering on top of a secure and innovative infrastructure
through is SAFE protocol the creation of an improved and new internet experience .

As many voices say , it may well be The Internet 3.0 Innovation so many of us have
been impatiently longing for . Now , the waiting is over , rejoice with us and join the
best internet network now . Explore , create , and prosper freely in all ways possible !

Feel free to use , change or dismiss any part of it …

Thanks everyone for the suggested improvements. :+1:

We’ll surely discuss these the next time we meet. For the logo competition we have already used the version posted in my previous message. We won’t be changing the text we used for the 99designs competitions, but I’m sure there will be other use cases in the future.
