SAFE messaging uses resources, but apparently costing nothing. using it for spamming is controlled by the fact that outboxes are limited in # of unread/unclaimed messages. Simple messages are self contained and anything of significant size is stored in SD/chunks and appended using datamaps. The use of SD’s or chunks does cost the normal storage charges, but often attachments are already stored.

  • SMTP (email) is text sent from a server to another server and stored in the receiver’s email address inbox.
  • SAFE messages is text stored in ones outbox on the “global server” that the SAFE network is. And the message is stored in the sender’s outbox and the receiver receives it from there.

With email the sender and receiver use some sort of program to communicate with the email servers (telnet, email client, web app) and with SAFE an APP will also be required.

Anyone believe the crook story, or is it a gov or something trying to suppress something.
