This is apparently a very beautiful solution. It uses light interferance to compute. Seems like at this point its still a classical system but it hammers botlenecks, and is in keeping with the new theme of much less space and energy for greater compute power. Also looks like it could be extreamly rugged and resilent. Also it looks like it may be viable in the market and not redundant.
As an aside a quick search shows optical ram and optical quantum computers with a good bit of research activity as well. People seem to be trying to productize chip type optical ram. In the past the optical focus was on fiber, interconnects and disks or crystaline cubes.
