OPEN LETTER TO THE SAFE NETWORK. . . topic deleted

Yes. And this topic was put in its place so that the community could have a chance to deal with any controversy surrounding the deletion, rather than just being “dictatorial and arbitrary”.

Personal (legal) matters should not be discussed on a public forum in my opinion
[/quote] The part about your opinion is spot on.

No, you put it in its place. And how does the community deal with it we no longer have access to it…

You don’t have a dog in the fight but yet you get involved and decided what we can and cant read. I’m not a child and I don’t need other people making decisions like that for me. Your potentially hurting us by not allowing us to see that fight unfold. How do I know I wont get scammed or targeted by the same people? Will MaidSafe at least respond? Are you involved? If your not involved why are you making yourself involved in something that is not your fight?

this is a community forum the maidsafe guys are “regular users” here + i read the post and it wasn’t about maidsafe at all … i don’t think it would make sense for maidsafe to responde to this in any way …

edit: this is why i’d have been pro just closing the threat … now people may feel patronized

Oh get the f**k outta here! Who are you kidding mate? Any of those kids can go to Facebook, Youtube and Twitter, communities far bigger than this and see a whole lot more than swearing and then all they need to do is make a right hand turn to view some pretty far our extreme porn… just please stop it’s pathetic.

In my household my 4 year old hears me swear all the time. Do I do it all the time? Hell no. Is she allowed to swear? Hell no. This is what being an adult is all about. Not hiding things away from children or any other member of society and instead teaching them rights and wrongs.

Not gross at all dude. Some guy complaining saying he had his domain hijacked, says he did a bunch of work for SAFE etc. But it’s hard to remember and how dare you ask what it was about, your not allowed to know that according to the clowns that think they run this place.

@goindeep

It comes down to this: there are guidelines and everyone who is willing to follow those guidelines is welcome here and discuss the SAFE Network. People who aren’t willing to follow the guidelines can create their own forum or go somewhere else to discuss the network.

It’s not as black and white as this of course because we’re always open for suggestions but swearing isn’t going to make it if you want to propose that.

EXACTLY!

Let us make up our own minds. And there is @fergish saying he has no dog in the fight, yet he removes one of the dogs, lol. It beggars belief.

The point that you dont seem to comprehend is that your saying and assuming this on our behalf. HOw is it ‘simply’ not a matter for this forum and community? How so please tell me oh great one? I am a member of this forum and a part of the community and I believe it is a matter for me and for all of us unless of course there is another reason you deleted it?

Well it seems roughly half of the people are saying they wanted this to play out if even a little longer… so yeah.

This isn’t the place to discuss your legal matters, and also not a place on which you can post things that look like potential blackmailing/extortion.

The part about the swearing was an example and you know it. So lets try to stick to the real issue at hand instead of moving around it by arguing things not directly involved in the topic.

What guidelines did the OP break and can you prove it?

It’s not black and white? Well uhh yeah deleting something is kind of the definition mate? You either delete something or you don’t and some of you are making it seem as if we are all wrong and yet approximately half the people here wanted it to play out a little longer so we could make up our own minds.

Firstly its not my legal matter mate. Secondly even if it was, why is this not a place for that, who says so and why? Don’t just throw statements out that you can’t back up. So are you saying we are not allowed to discuss scams, hoaxes, DCMA, copyright, what exactly are you saying? Please define it or are you just not happy that a member of this forum accused someone of something?

End of the day you guys handled this atrociously. You have turned it into a much bigger issue. What you should of done is stepped in commented publicly and said that the thread would be allowed to be played out even though it had been flagged and considered for deletion so long as it met the community guidelines and telling everyone it would be heavily monitored. But you didn’t do that, you silenced the person making the claims and we had zero clue what was going on. And lets assume @culexevilman is a nutcase or is making this all up, well shouldn’t we all as reasonable people be allowed to make up ouw own minds on the matter and decide for ourselves? Because now what you have done is you have silenced one person who was claiming we had a scammer or a hijacker in our midst, now I am on red alert. Is someone in this forum scamming people, could they potentially scam me, what is the scam? Well… see that’s the problem, we don’t know because the moderators silenced the person making the vague claims without us having the opportunity to find out more information. Thank you but you are wrong.

Just summarizing here:

I need to "get the **** out of here! Because it’s pathetic. Earlier today moderation was “anal”. We all act “high and mighty” as mods with our “mods hats on”. We are deleting and treating to deleting things all the time. We as moderators are “worse than half of the current WWW.” We also put “our spin on it” which amounts in saying that we do it to protect you. It’s also “Scary as hell”. The mods handled it “atrociously” and you are on red alert because there might be a scammer or hijacker in our midst.

Woow, if that’s not freedom of speech I don’t know where I could find it. Don’t know if it really improves the discussion but who knows right?

Yawn. Its the week we have all been waiting for and this is the nonsense being discussed. Exactly why it belongs in People magazine not here.

Agreed. I usually jump on here when my wiener is tired. I get about a 30 minute window of lust free clarity before my urges return. Oh! :hushed: Here it comes. See ya!

Didn’t remove a dog. Removed the fight. I really don’t know the truth of it and, as a moderator, I don’t care. This had, and still has, nothing to do with the business or purpose of this forum. Get over it.

Indeed.

Some people need to calm down and discuss the issues with less emotion & point scoring.

We also need to be happy to accept that we can’t all get our own way about how things will work given we have differing views.

Discussing the potential of doing things differently in a respectful, humble way is more likely to lead to positive change than throwing a hissy fit.

I wouldnt need to be over it had you not deleted it. You guys dont believe in free speech or in protecting the community at large. Thank you for your moderation. Oh and it didn’t take long to figure out who he was talking about…disgusting behavior guys, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

I had wanted to reply to him it’s not, but I didn’t want to add to this already pointless discussion. However now that you said he’s right, I want to comment that I think he’s not.

You can’t have a valid opinion on what someone should or shouldn’t post. You can have an opinion about whether you should post. What you think other people should do doesn’t matter just as someone’s thinking mods shouldn’t remove other people’s posts doesn’t oblige the mods to follow that.

The commenter’s opinion on this matter matters only because he’s a mod (owner or his representative for moderation work) and otherwise could be easily ignored by all.

An opinion is inherently self validating. It’s a subjective expression not constrained by interpreted acceptability. Whether it matters is another story.
