What I find interesting that it seems related to a user of online campaign software NB (http://nationbuilder.com/).
So it’s more like someone was being incompetent with their voter DB, rather than the current government approach to voting not being secure enough (although the latter is most likely true as well). In such a case there is simply nothing you can do: say a guy like Sanders builds a DB of voters from various sources, and in it they have all sorts of social media info, to be able to “engage” the voters. There is nothing the government or individual voter can do about it.
Except SSNs (someone should go be heavily fined for that) most information about people is public. It’s just that it was gathered in one place and in one convenient package.
