MaidSafeCoin (MAID) - Price & Trading topic (Part 1)

Surely, it is ripe for arbitrage? Granted, the spread isn’t helping, but volitilty should surely attract those traders looking for such things?

If the traders respond, then liquidity will come and spreads will decrease.

Edit: btw, this saying seems appropriate:

In the kingdom of the blind, the one eyed man is king.

In other words, in a small pond, even minows can behave like whales.

arb is risky right now cause of the low liquidity.

It is indeed a bit of a prisoners dilemma. No one wants to put out a bunch of liquidity and be the only one doing that. Otherwise you risk getting really trapped if someone takes you up on your bid completely. Everyone wants to play but no one wants to go first. To me this is where Maidsafe should take some leadership and provide liquidity on chainrift like they said they would. I think they have the most to gain or lose anyways. If this market is not liquid enough I will just trade DOGE or some such. But for them if no one is playing in the MAID market then they have no funding. I think we will be pleasantly surprised how much more comes out of the woodwork once SOMEONE gets the ball rolling.

Aren’t you forgetting about Bittrex? I think there are trust issues for whales to move large capital to Chainrift as they are more unknown than Bittrex. I remember you wrote earlier that you would begin small on Chainrift.

On ChainRift right now, there’s a bid to buy 372k+ MAID at 1040.

Thats quite a lot.

Does that qualify as a whale then?

not the size of whale we used to see on polo but I will sure take it. Orders of magnitude greater then any other bids out there. I bet now we see more people that were waiting for someone else to go first put some real liquidity on this exchange. Might be enough to start a snowball effect.

It’s at least encouraging me to trade bigger. Was really hesitant to buy back the size of bag I had on polo til now just cause that seemed like it would be easy to get trapped. Just knowing someone is there willing to buy it makes things a lot safer (of course I still hope to never have to sell to that guy :stuck_out_tongue: )

It is glorious to see the price recovery! :slight_smile:
This coming year will be a landmark year for SAFENet :rocket:

The following link claims 172,000,000 economically active bitcoin addresses.

With at least 460,000,000 in total.

So we have 16,848 Maidsafe addresses.

If you are in any of the histogram buckets above you are an early adopter.

Once we have MVE out there 172,000,000 will surely be rushing for the entrance.

That standard deviation feels very high, are you sure about that one? Two standard deviations would give about 95% of the population if we can assume it is atleast approximate to normal distribution. Which gives that 95% of all addresses would be within range of

26860–(557338x2) and 26860 + (557338x2).
So 95% of the balances of the population 16848 would be between -1 087 816 and 1 141 537.

Do you know if there are alot of extreme values ± 3x standard deviation and if the population can be considered approximate to standard deviation? Just some early morning thoughts of curiosity. :slightly_smiling_face:

I don’t think balances would have a curve that is close to a normal distribution. I would think it would be more of a bimodal curve with a cluster of “hobby traders” and a cluster of “serious investor”

That could be the case and I just thought of that a person might distribute their funds between several addresses which could maybe also have an effect.

From the histogram there are a high % of addresses containing very few coins, probably addresses on exchanges, and a small amount of addresses with a very high amount, but even if they are removed it looks a little skewed, probably to other factors.

ya there are lots of extreme outliers making that SD go up. But also I still just got a feeling in my heart that markets don’t follow normal distributions. Then again I suppose its possible that the sum of all our opinions is like a um “natural thing” which usually do follow normal distributions.

You can check…

Open dev tools

function average(a) {
    if (a.length == 0) {
        return 0;
    }
    let sumA = 0;
    for (let i=0; i<a.length; i++) {
        sumA += a[i];
    }
    return sumA / a.length;
}

function standardDeviation(a) {
    let avg = average(a);
    let sumDiffSq = 0;
    for (let i=0; i < a.length; i++) {
        let diff = a[i] - avg;
        let diffSq = diff * diff;
        sumDiffSq += diffSq;
    }
    return Math.sqrt(sumDiffSq / a.length);
}

z = JSON.parse(document.body.textContent);
z.sort(function(a, b){
    return parseInt(b.balance)-parseInt(a.balance)
});
balances = z.map(function(a) {
    return parseFloat(a.balance);
});
console.log("Balances:");
console.log(balances);
stdev = standardDeviation(balances);
console.log("Standard Deviation: " + stdev);

Keep in mind that the top 10 addresses (ie 0.06% of the population) have 38% of all coins (172,501,827 MAID), so stdev is not especially useful under those sorts of distributions.

Also keep in mind that address count != users since a) some users will spread their total over many addresses and b) some addresses will be for exchanges that account for multiple users.

These stats are indicative only and for having at least some (albeit relatively poor) measure of how things are changing over time. I mainly meant for it to be used for relative historical measurements.

Thanks mav, that makes sense, that few balances with high amounts of total coins skews things, as you wrote.

The code looks great, I can’t understand all of it. But when I now look at the st.dev part it seems correct to me, especielly the part that differentiate st.dev from variance.

When I saw that high st.dev, my brain saw something like, if average human height is 175cm and have a st.dev of ±500cm. :joy: The st.dev looked so high that I could have been the variance. :slightly_smiling_face:

Nice to talk some statistics, it is not every day common for me.

love to check it out but you are gonna have to walk caveman me though this… where do I put the code? the link seems to just be a list of all addresses.

Load the page in the browser like you did to show all the addresses and balances (chrome is best because firefox adds some ui to the data that makes it harder to work with)

Open dev tools (press F12, or menu> more tools > developer tools)

Change to ‘console’ tab in the dev tools

Paste in the code snippet, which will parse the data and calculate the stdev from it

I guess if Harry wants to be financially independent buying Maidsafe is one way. He could by more coins than any of us.

Edit: Got me thinking… are there people in the lime light that are buying Maidsafe? Will there be any famous Charachters outing themselves as owners on launch?
