MaidSafe Dev Update - 23th August 2016 - TEST 8

TEST8 is distributed vaults (we also host some of them as well in digital ocean), Alpha is also on vaults but hosted by us for now.

Would it be possible for the Launcher to remember apps? Imagine a 100 apps running on the launcher and that it shuts down and have to be restarted, this would also mean that you have to allow a 100 apps again.

In the authorize you can choose now between “Deny” or “Allow”, wouldn’t it help if you have a “Remember” (which is allow, but auto allow when my launcher restarts)?

It would also be fun if you can access the app through the launcher, like with the demo app.

There is a problem with this “remember” app thing, like you logging in again and a certain app showing up, while you don’t want it to show up in a meeting or what have you…

Where can we get the ghost in the safe app?

here
http://app.ghost.safenet/

But it shows “Authorisation Failed” even after you allow the app, can’t remember but this version was not completely updated to work with the current test8

Will it work with alpha?

Maybe later we’ll get to play with it again, think Lightyear’s very busy now

I have it working on OSX.

Would love a GUI for the vaults where we can choose where the vaults data is being stored (I would like to use my drobo) and have the option to limit the bandwidth the vault is using.

I have no clue what its doing in the terminal. But in case this helps anyone this is the last few lines from the terminal.

So I’ve tried the odroid-c2 but unfortunately for now i have failed to an almost funny degree

I tried the arm binaries but I only received an error like “directory not found” and thats it. I was about to tinker with it and see whether the kernel versions etc were accurate, but before I wanted to do a thorough apt-get upgrade and yea, now its not booting anymore at all.

So I need some more time. Btw, Im not the only one with an o-c2, am I?

All sites seem to be timing out for me, except mine:

http://test.sfultong.safenet/first.html

TEST8 ain’t feeling too well is it?
I’ve seen a quite sharp rise in timeouts and now all connection attempts seem to be failing.

Alpha net is still fine, and I guess that’s the “main” net anyhow if you’re not playing around with vaults and stuff?

Edit: Seems to work if I create a new account. Can’t login to my existing one. :frowning:

I don’t think as many people are participating in test net 8 as were participating in previous test nets.

One upside of that is that it has been a good environment for testing your apps under high latency conditions.

I cannot connect to my account anymore.

Same here. Needed to make a new account again.

Ah well, its to fun

Damn, only running the vault for about 1,5 hour and already 6355 GETS (1,6 GB) :open_mouth:  :grinning:

I suspect that all data get progressively lost, meaning that new accounts and new sites are reachable when they are created but then they disappear later. I think this is due to a mixture of:

  • too few nodes and probably some of bad quality

  • too big data

As I said one month ago, the Maidsafe droplets should have been concentrated on only one community network and the upload limit should have been lowered.

The alpha was probably important for PR/political purposes, but I think it’s created a bit of confusion in the community.

I hope the alpha re-merges with public test networks soon.

wow, you would have made some serious $$!

True; this shows the potential for usage and the amount of money that people can make using the platform for distributing copyrighted materials such as this, however we have to realise that it may also make some people think that this is a ‘Dark Market’, platform, which is something I don’t really want. Pirates will flock to the Safe Platform in their droves once we start the beta cycle, but is this really what people want the platform to stand for?

I realise that there is nothing we can do about this without killing some of the anonymity of the Safe Network, but figured I’d play devil’s advocate and mention it. Personally I’m all for sharing most forms of data, beit copyrighted or not, but it’s something to think about.

Has anybody else noticed waaay less failures in the stats compared to previous vault tests… or is it just me.

Dark market = Free market.

Who cares what they think.
