His real start came from a friday night comedy segment (a few minutes) after the current affairs type news view which came after the 1/2 hour news show. So the news, then a current affairs type show and he was the closing segment on Friday nights with a side kick called strop. The side kick was the brains and wrote the comedy routine.
This then expanded into his own TV show, called “The Paul Hogan Show” based on similar skits. An example Paul Hogan Show - At The Beach - YouTube
