I only just heard of Giphy, a pre-revenue startup that is a search engine for GIFS and I was interested by this phrase because it could be a way of rewarding the producer (of the original content that the GIF was derived from):
“When people use Giphy, not only do they find gifs, but they also get directed to where the gif originated - be it a movie, YouTube clip or otherwise.”
Unfortunately being a search engine on the old web, we don’t have too look far to see the most profitable way to monetise will be advertising, and perhaps sharing revenue from that with the original producers.
I’m not sure it offers anything for us but their interest in rewarding producers seemed worth picking out.
