Yeah, this is expected and a known CLI issue, if you run the node join command after a node is already running it will launch a new node, and due to how the OS file descriptors for the logs work the first node may be writing to a file descriptor which doesn’t end up in the log file. So for now what you did (kill them all and start a new node again) is the only solution, and making sure only one node is running at a time. We will fix it for next version of CLI to provide a different folder to each node you launch, so you could launch many node join commands and each will have its own folder with logs and chunks.
There may have been an old node running, removed dirs and log file, the node cannot create the path and perhaps hangs. Then safe node join again may have just been ignored as you were joined. I am not sure, but sounds like a node was running when you removed the dirs?
good to know, thanks! I thought I had only a single node before and still had no log but I can’t say for certain anymore.
The log is empty now though (just the Running sn_node v0.39.0 message).
I’ll do another complete wipe and make sure all processes are kileld.
This could be normal though, I think it’s just a few seconds until it gets a first response from the network to either allowing it to join or to try later again.
Something different
safe files get safe://chess?v=0 . -e ask -i bars
$ safe cat safe://hygoyeye9mq5jmipo3we79wohue8hjyw55e6f8xyk1hquwy9hsxnk9tdsme > ~/safe-the-planet.png
Error: NetDataError: Failed to GET Public Blob: ErrorMessage(NoSuchData)
I get the error above when trying to cat
it has been running for a ~8-10 minutes, I’ve had log entries after that time before. I’ll just do a complete clean run.
Yep me too - but I did download it earlier within seconds… can’t find it now… it’s gone astray!
Peak uploads speeds of 16 MB averaging about 5 MB. So far so good.
Upload has smoothed out to 1.5 MB upload without the peaks and troughs. It’s still uploading.
I’m back into v4.2, as an infant, this time with working vdash - ty @happybeing ![]()
Compiling on the pi4 takes ages, and limited disk space doesn’t help - I need to cargo clean at every iteration or I go no space left on device…
anyways here is a jpg for you to try :
safe://hygoygykwnfufgwpme9ner7cz78th8nba4o8hy4sdaj5mxoafk3puh4y6ta
It works. (10 char)
Ater creating a wallet, and successfully transfering coin into it, then trying to get the balance I gert this error:
Error: ContentError: Failed to read balances from Wallet: NetDataError: Failed to get Sequenced Map. ErrorMessage(NoSuchData)
Just did a clean setup again and made sure all sn_node processes were killed and same thing happened. no sn_node.log in local-node.
After another killall and join cycle it’s created again.
On a positive note, I’ve finally been able to upload my image folder of ~17MB ![]()
funny
did you try to pipe it into display ? :
safe cat safe://hygoygykwnfufgwpme9ner7cz78th8nba4o8hy4sdaj5mxoafk3puh4y6ta | display
Im seeing a discrepancy here I think
tailing the logs give me

Note Section 10 has 7 Elders and 0 adults
but vdash tells me
Also noting I have only stored 2 chunks in last hour or more…
I’m uploading as fast as I can
WOW. I just finished compiling … and joinged instantly!!! A record for me!!!
edit: I have chunks!!!
Nope… now I am getting the error again… ahhh
Error: NetDataError: Failed to GET Public Blob: ErrorMessage(NoSuchData)
What’s the discrepancy you’re referring to? The two seem consistent to me.
I think that an adult can only know elders in its section and not other adults (hence 0 value for no of adults)
BTW, anyone promoted Elder in the community?
