MAID works on the mastercoin protocol, which is part of the blockchain but different from bitcoin. its like sending MAID to a bitcoin wallet address, it can be stored there, but you need mastercoin wallets and protocols (such as omniwallet) to view and transact with the coins, which Coinbase claims not to have…
After reading this I’m so glad we’re getting SAFE and can give the finger to centralized exchanges like this. Coinbase is like Mt. Gox all over again.

They keep saying maidsafe creates the private keys. Any reason why this did not occur from the beginning?
Same issue here but with Synerero’s crowdsale back in April 2015. I’m glad it’s common knowledge now as I would hate to see others go through this. I really hope the solutions would not be a class action suit but a more peaceful “Claim Your Hot-wallet Originated Crowdsale Tokens Form”.
It’s pretty simple and I sure hope it happens.
